Welcome Our Newest Family Member

DeDe 1 Faithful readers of this blog (all two or three of them!) will know that we’ve been fostering De De. She’s been with us about three weeks now.  Somehow she melted everyone’s heart (even mine) and we’ve decided to adopt her and make her a full fledged member of the family.  Even though I do complain a bit about De De and her attention-grabbing antics, I am really happy that we’ve decided to keep her. As Mama said "I just can’t imagine giving De De to anyone else".  De De is really funny and she loves to play with me. We do "play fighting" all the time which we Havanese love to do. IMG_2877De De is getting used to the routine around here and with a few more pointers from me, she should be OK!  DeDe 3I guess we’re sisters now!  Here’s a few photos of Dede to officially welcome her to the family.  These were taken at sundown looking over Shady Canyon.

DeDe

DeDe is stil with us. I must say I am getting used to her, sort of. She does get me playing a lot more than I used to, so that must be good. DeDe bw011She is a bit of an attention hog, which is not great for me, since I am used to having all of the attention.  But the Prince says it’s good for me to have a little fellow canine around, and I have to say I think he’s right.  Here’s a good picture of DeDe.

De De Update

Picture 008Here’s a bit of an update on De De, our Havanese Rescue pup.  She’s been staying with us for about a week now, and I can’t believe how much she’s changed. When she first got here she was kind of nervous and whiny. Picture 012But now she’s just fitting right in as part of the pack.  She has been kind of bugging me because she’s been getting some of the attention from the humans, but that’s OK I guess.  She loves to play and fight with me, and I like it too.  Here’s a couple of pictures of us together so you can see what we look like.  I’m on the left, De De’s on the right.

Presenting…DE DE!

Here’s the newest member of the family: Deedee!  Deedee 003 She’s a Havanese who’s going to be staying with us for a while.  She was recently surrendered to Havanese Rescue and we are going to find her a new family to live with.  In the meantime, Deedee and I will be playing and having fun together.  She’s really a great jumper and runner, and she likes to play and explore.  It’s great to have another canine around. Don’t you think she looks a bit like me?

My (Real) Mom

Readers of this site will know that I refer to Cath as “Mama”, which she doesn’t like that much but still that’s what I call her. She wonders why her husband is the “Prince” while she’s Mama. Shouldn’t she be “Princess?”   Well, I can’t really explain it. I guess it’s because I love her so much, just like she’s my mother. Which reminded me that you might like to see my real mom, who is Peaches. Her picture is below.  She’s so cute and she taught me just about everything I know about being a Havanese.  Even though I do miss Peaches, I love my human mom very much. I spend most of every day with her, usually snoozing in my basket or on the floor, doing an occasional mad dash around the office for a little exercise.  We really have a good time together.

Go and take a look at Peaches’ new and improved website, briarcliffhavanese.com. You can take a look at my Uncle Jack, who’s a big-time champion. He’s brought a lot of honor into our family!

Out for a Ride!

The Prince and I went over to Grandma’s house today for a visit.  Of course I barked my head off when I got there because I just love going over to Grandma’s house.  We went for a walk and then took Grandma out for ice cream.  Here’s a photo of me in the car.  Ruffles 9-13 011 The Prince snapped this photo of me in the side mirror of the car. You can see the camera at the upper right.

I just love riding in the car, especially with the window open. Now I know there are those who say that it’s not safe for dogs to stick their head out the window, but I say “Pshaw!” (I think I am channeling the Prince’s grandfather with that quote.) Anyway, I have a pair of goggles that I wear when I’m sticking my head out the window at more than, say, 35 MPH. Anything under that really is not an issue, despite what the behavior police say.  You know, in Cuba they don’t have that kind of nanny state. It’s a different kind of nanny state where if you say the wrong thing they will put you in jail for twenty or thirty years, but they won’t bother you for riding in the car without a seatbelt. (BTW, I heard there is a bill pending in the California legislature that would outlaw having a dog in your lap when you are driving, and THAT is the best example I have ever seen as to why the California legislators should be a part-time and unpaid. REALLY, don’t they have anything better to do than persecute poor dogs like me?)  But I digress.  Ruffles 9-13 004Here’s a photo of Grandma at the ice cream store. Cute!   The Prince is getting better at taking pictures under my tutelage.

Wine!

Ruff with Wine 002Well, it’s fall, so the Prince and his friend Glen are at it again making wine. They do this every year.  This year they bought a huge amount of Pinot Noir grapes, probably way more than they needed, but as the Prince says, you put it all on the red and see what happens.

Here are a couple of pics of me in the winery (which is actually a garage; the Prince says he is a “garageist” winemaker… whatever that means.)  I do always enjoy the press of the red grapes. Here’s a photo of me with the press.  Ruff with Wine 010 Fall is a wonderful time of year, isn’t it?

The Pack is Back

The pack was out of town for a vacation which (unfortunately) did not include me. I did get to go over to Pepper’s house and have a fun time, so it was sort of like a vacation for me too. Still I think I might have enjoyed going to Utah with the pack.  Anyway, they are back!  Here is a photo of them on vacation.  Mountain Biking Deer Valley 019

Jane’s Home!

We just went over and picked Jane up from the bus from Yosemite Sierra Summer Camp.  It’s so great to have Jane back home!  As my longtime fans know, my prime directive is "Keep the Pack Together", so this is a special day for me!  Besides, we all really missed her a lot.  Pepper came with us to pick up Jane, so that added quite a bit to the pomp and circumstance. pep&ruffPepper and I do make a pretty swell pair out on the town.  The Prince snapped this photo of Pep and me shortly after we arrived back home, so I thought I would share it with you all.

Aloha to Ted, Scott, Kate, Aunt Gail and Uncle Don over in Hawaii. If you’d like to read about some of there adventures over there (including an Obama sighting by Ted and Scott) you can go here.

As a special treat for Jane tonight the Prince is going to make Aunt Gail’s special meatballs.  Which is absolutely one of my favorite meals.

PEPPER!

Uncle Don, Aunt Gail, Ted, Scott and Kate all went to Hawaii yesterday. As usual, they sent Pepper over to stay with us!  Frankly I don’t see why Pepper shouldn’t go to Hawaii too. Just another example of our "dogist" society. But don’t get me started.  Pepper is here so I guess there are benefits to "dogism" too.  The prince snapped this photo of Miss P. , so you can see what I’m talking about: Various 030

It’s so great to have another canine here!  We get to run around together, and jump on the sofa, and all kinds of fun stuff.  I’ve been giving Pepper some "voice lessons" to get her bark a bit louder. I think Ted will be very impressed with her improved ability to "project" her bark.

Kate’s playing in a volleyball tournament in Honolulu, so that’s her reason for being there. I’m not exactly sure what excuse Ted and Scott have for being over there….  They are probably doing some volleyball consulting.  Anyway, I’m just happy to have my old pal Pep over for a good long visit.
