As my faithful readers know, my prime directive is "Keep the Pack Together". Historically this meant me herding three humans around, which is fine (one makes do), but now I’ve got a real pack to keep together, as this photo will demonstrate. Here we have DeDe, Pepper (Uncle Don and Aunt Gail’s popular pug, who is visiting for a long weekend) and yours truly. This is what I call a PACK! Not that I don’t still enjoy herding the humans around… But I am reminded of that Steely Dan lyric "Sharing the things we know and love with those of our kind". Sorry, I’ve got to go get the pack together. Talk to you soon!
Now This Is A Pack!
Injured Havanese!
Last night the pack got home very late from a Saint Joseph Ballet performance, and DeDe and I were so excited to see everyone. That didn’t last long though because DeDe sprained her leg while greeting everyone.
She was in quite a bit of pain so at about midnight, the entire pack (minus me) went to the 24 hour vet to see what was wrong with DeDe’s leg. The vet was worried that there might be a fracture, but luckily it was just "soft tissue damage", so DeDe came home with a cast on and is getting all the attention now! I have been watching over her to make sure she is OK and that she doesn’t do too much. Here’s a photo of DeDe with her new attention-getter:
Grooming Day
Yesterday was grooming day. I have to say, I have never liked getting groomed. Yes, I like the results, since I do look pretty cute after a good grooming (though I cannot stand those bows they put on my head sometimes!). But the process is, well a bit like torture. Yesterday was the first time that DeDe and I got groomed together. The redoubtable Aaron of the Royal Pet Spa did his usual professional job. And it was nice to have a fellow victim in DeDe. She of course loved getting groomed (no surprise; she loves everything). I thought you might like to see some "after" pictures so you can see the difference. We smell really nice too! Welcome Our Newest Family Member
Faithful readers of this blog (all two or three of them!) will know that we’ve been fostering De De. She’s been with us about three weeks now. Somehow she melted everyone’s heart (even mine) and we’ve decided to adopt her and make her a full fledged member of the family. Even though I do complain a bit about De De and her attention-grabbing antics, I am really happy that we’ve decided to keep her. As Mama said "I just can’t imagine giving De De to anyone else". De De is really funny and she loves to play with me. We do "play fighting" all the time which we Havanese love to do.
De De is getting used to the routine around here and with a few more pointers from me, she should be OK!
I guess we’re sisters now! Here’s a few photos of Dede to officially welcome her to the family. These were taken at sundown looking over Shady Canyon.
DeDe
DeDe is stil with us. I must say I am getting used to her, sort of. She does get me playing a lot more than I used to, so that must be good.
She is a bit of an attention hog, which is not great for me, since I am used to having all of the attention. But the Prince says it’s good for me to have a little fellow canine around, and I have to say I think he’s right. Here’s a good picture of DeDe.
